Joe MacGown Art Exhibition-BLY Fine Art Center, Eupora MS-25 April-2 May 2009

The reception for my one man show at the BLY Fine Arts Center in Eupora, MS was from 6-8 PM on 25 April 2009. Despite the fact that Eupora is a small town about 30 minutes from Starkville, MS where I live, we had a good sized crowd present. In fact, at one point, we almost had the entire space filled with easily over a hundred folks. Lots of people that knew me made it over, but additionally, some others came by who had seen something in the paper about the event. I had about 55 framed, matted pictures in the show and every one of them took a while. Most people seemed amazed, if not stupified, by the detail, and virtually everybody wanted to know how long they took to do. I had many interesting conversations with viewers, which was a diverse group ranging from professors to art students to foresters.

As a bonus, I decided to have a random drawing in which I gave away a framed print of "Infinity". The winner was James Lewis (see photo below). Thanks to everybody who helped make this show a success including the Eupora Arts Group; Dylan Karges, who was really the reason I even had a show there, plus he printed flyers and got catered food from Bulldog Deli in Starkville, MS; David Cross, who helped me carry the pictures to the show; Alyson Rhodes for helping with the food; and my wife Julie and her mom, Pat Reynolds, who made and brought food!
